Electric Chess

This is a list of not-so-frequently asked questions and
their answers, an NSFAQ if you will. The questions aren't
frequently asked because they've already been answered here,
so no one needs to ask them.

What are the rules of chess?
There's a pretty good set of official rules here.

My opponent hasn't moved in a long time. Does that mean I win?
Yes, eventually. If your opponent hasn't moved within 30 after you
made your last move, he/she will received a reminder email. If he/she
still hasn't made a move 10 days after that, the game will expire,
counting as a win for you and a loss for your opponent.

Can I castle? If so, how?
Yes. If you're able to castle, you will be able to move your king
two spaces to the right or left. The rook will be moved automatically.
You may not castle if you are in check, or if your king would travel
over a square where he would be in check, or if you have moved your
rook or king in the past.

Can I trade in my pawns? If so, how?
Yes. Once you get your pawn to the other side of the board, you
will be able to select another piece for substitution, right before
you choose to confirm the move.

Is taking en-passant allowed?
Yes. If your opponent has moved a pawn up two squares on his or
her last move, and you have a pawn horizontally adjacent to that
pawn's new position, you may capture it diagonally as if it had only
moved only one square.

I forgot my password. May I have another?
Sure. Enter your username below and I'll email you
a new, automatically generated one.

So how does it pick who goes first?
It's random. Each player has a 50% chance of starting off
with the white pieces and thus going first.

Where did you get the name "Electric Chess"?
It is a humble homage to the greatest band ever to exist,
Electric Tunafish.

Where did you get the chess graphics?
Why, www.chessgraphics.com, of course. It's defunct now, though.

Don't you have anything better to do?
No.

Are you lost?
Go back.
